In 1913, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Peace of Hamina, an Orthodox chapel was built on the Uspenski Cathedral grounds in Katajanokka . However, this Peace Chapel was considered a symbol of Russian repressive policies, so after Finland gained independence, fanatical nationalist students tarred it with tar. The tar could not be cleaned from the soapstone walls of the chapel, so it was decided to demolish the building in 1920.

The Katajanokka towel is made of 100% linen. The towel is printed and sewn in Finland.
